This Eyegoodies Custom Project uses some of the most technically advanced lenses on the planet: Black polarized lenses, made by the world-renowned Japanese lens maker Nikon. The lenses are then finished with a custom multilayer Black Ice mirror to provide the sharpest visual acuity in even the harshest conditions.

The Polarized Black Ice Mirror lenses are edged in house to our exacting standards into three of our favorite frames, creating this exclusive custom pack. Each frame was specifically chosen for its distinct aesthetic.

A limited edition released nearly a decade ago for Paul Smith’s Runway and instantly sold out. We kept some pairs in the Eyegoodies Vault for a special occasion such as this.

Perfect whether you’re exploring city streets or mountain peaks, the Alrick is a flawlessly executed and substantial piece of eyewear. Handmade in Italy, the perfectly proportioned matte black-on-black frame features black Italian leather side-shields at the temples, as well as an Italian black leather cover over its double-bridge. It is then elevated with custom Polarized Black Ice Mirror lenses.

A frame that needs little introduction, the Persol 714 is one of the most iconic sunglasses ever produced. The pioneering foldable frame was made legendary by the “King of Cool”, the late Steve McQueen. The 714SM (Steve McQueen) limited edition, was a special release by Persol to pay tribute.

There are a couple key and cool distinctions between the 714 and the limited 714SM, most notably:  the 1960’s era inwards folding hinges which showcase the signature Persol double arrow on the temples.

We couldn’t think of a better backdrop for this Eyegoodies Custom Project. We took the versatile all black frames, and brought them into the 21st century with our Polarized custom Black Ice Mirror lenses.

Inspired by the antique charm of the long lost writing tool, Persol introduces the “Typewriter Edition” collection. Composed of two timeless shapes, a rounded (3108) and a squared off model (3110), each encompassing subtle details to recall a golden era of  literary heritage.

These combination frames have, a newly conceived metal bridge which is finished with refined laser engravings and features rivets inspired by the letters of the old keyboards.  The name of the collection is written in the iconic “American Typewriter” font on the inner side of the temple with a fan-shaped pattern on the tips that helps prevent slippage. The three-cylinder Meflecto system on each temple ensures maximum flexibility, grip, and comfort. In exclusive acetates, the sunglasses are available in standard, as well as polarized lenses.

To commemorate the special edition, each frame comes packaged in a premium leather chocolate brown pebbled leather case with suede lined interior.

The Phoenix reborn!  Persol releases the limited 3072 “Film Noir Edition” sunglasses.

The Persol 3072 AKA “The Gangster” is part of Persol’s limited edition “Film Noir Collection”.  As tribute, we see the resurrection of the famed Phoenix arrow. Persol’s defining arrow was first introduced by founder, Giuseppe Ratti in the 1930’s. Over the years, this arrow has taken many shapes. One of the rarest, being the Phoenix of the film noir era.

Handmade in Italy, the frame features a classic key-hole bridge and is done up in shiny black acetate with silver detailing, and features G15(grey green) glass lenses which are both polarized and anti-reflective back coated for superb optics and glare protection.

Persol pays tribute to their heritage with the Roadster Edition series.  A special collection inspired by the classic roadster sports cars of yesteryear. A fitting nod to the Italian brands roots, back when their sunglasses were made for and worn by race car drivers.

The latest Roadster Edition model, the Persol 3018S, with its classic styling and clean lines is a great addition to the series.  It features a key-hole bridge, signature Supreme Arrows, and subtle details such as an engraved grill like design on the temple tips.  Much like the cars it was inspired by, its beautiful in its simplicity, a timeless design which never goes out of style. The Limited Edition Super ILARIA, available in the US exclusively at eyegoodies.com.
Part of Super’s special projects, meant to signify their top range models which are produced in extra limited quantity, Super releases the Ilaria.
The Ilaria transforms the Lucia model with the use of classic havana acetate and gold metal. The havana elegantly dresses the front of the frame and the temple tips while the gold metal gives it a rich contrast. Especially unique to the Ilaria is the gold metal which also outlines the lenses, really highlighting their round shape, as well as providing greater structural integrity.

Thierry Lasry X L’Ecurie
Thierry Lasry collaborates with French design house L’Ecurie(known for translating movement into design and their one of a kind auto customizations) to create a truly unique piece of eyewear that blends both their passions seamlessly. The frame, appropriately named “The Seventy Nine”, revives the cool styling of the glasses worn by late legend Paul Newman when he participated in the famed “24 Heures du Mans” race in 1979 (finishing second and winning the Imsa class).  Featured above in tortoise with white accents(also available in black, blue, red)

Ray Ban RB 8041 Titanium Aviator sunglasses simply termed by Ray Ban as the “Aviator Titanium”, takes the exact classic best selling Ray Ban Aviator RB 3025 model and improves it by crafting it out of pure beta titanium.

Han doesn’t follow trends, but does follow classic design principles.
Han Kjobenhavn eyewear, simply called Han, was born May 1st 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The New Zealand born designer, ever since debuting her run way collection, has enjoyed an ever growing following with collections that are effortless and unpretentious.

Karen walker Number One is a well-fitting feminine shape that ties together many unique style elements. Ksubi is quite possibly Australia’s most iconic fashion brand, which was first created in 2000 by Dan Single and George Gorrow. George having a love of all things eyewear knew this was a natural progression for the line. The collection is simple yet built with an eclectic mix of styles, inspired by pop comic, steam punk and vintage, creating a contrasting but unified & original look.

Thierry Lasry, all hand-made in France, takes a very fresh avant-garde approach to sunglasses.  Based off the concept of “futuristic-vintage” they utilize vintage designs and color palettes, but incorporate an updated modern touch with a surprising ease.

Persol intertwines top notch craftsmanship and quality with timeless aesthetics producing true works of art, as recently celebrated in the Persol Design Exhibition at the Whitney museum.
I have been a long time collector of Persols from the early, mid, and late Ratti pieces to the current models. After receiving an invitation and attending the opening of Persol’s exhibition, I was inspired to write about, not only my two favorite Persol sunglasses, but perhaps my two all time favorite sunglasses: Persol 649S and Persol 714.

Persol 649S
The persol 649S, created in 1950’s to protect tram drivers from the elements, became instant legend when Marcello Mastroianni wore them in the 1961 Pietro Germi film “Divorce Italian style”.

1994’s French book “qualita: scenes d’objects a l’italienne” declared the Persol 649 one of the objects most representative of the Italian genius of yesterday and today.

Persol 714
Perhaps the most sought after and collected pair of sunglasses in history!
With the same classic shape as the 649 S model came the 714, with one enhancement: a frame design which folded, adding the perfect cool factor. Given legendary status by the iconic man’s man who once said “I live for myself and account to no one”, “The King of Cool”, the late Steve McQueen. Worn by McQueen both off screen and on screen in movies such as “The Thomas Crown Affair” and the “The Getaway”.

Sunglasses Collector’s have long sought after the frame, as the Persol 714 had gone out of production. When it was re-released in late 2007 we had them months before they hit the states.

Persol 714 and 649 with Custom Blue Lenses
Definitely the most noted Persol 714 worn by McQueen was with custom tinted blue lenses; which made a special guest appearance in the film “The Thomas Crown Affair”.

A similar pair from Mcqueen’s own personal collection was auctioned off in 2006 for a staggering $70,200.

To pay tribute we have been customizing the blue lens model for many years. So as soon as the re-release arrived we couldn’t wait to start remaking our Eyegoodies exclusive Thomas Crown Edition.
