Just in from our latest Cutler and Gross eyeglass shipment, we present the new three-tone colors of their popular 0772 style.

Quintessential Cutler and Gross, the 0772 eyeglass is a traditional and classic design which has been a mainstay in their collection for years.  It features thick and chunky Italian acetate and vintage rectangular pins, lending a very nostalgic 50/60’s feel to a frame which will always remain timeless.  New for Spring Summer ’13 it gets an update in the form of signature three-tone colorways. Featuring a dual color beveled front with the top half accentuating a bolder color — it is then finished off with similar,  albeit slightly different complementary colored temples.

The Cutler and Gross Fall Winter 2012/2013 ‘The Golden Trail’ collection in now in stock.

This season Cutler and Gross takes us on an exotic journey through ‘The Golden Trail’ from India, via Turkey and Marrakesh. Using the star of Morocco as their guide, the ultimate symbol of richness, peace and beauty, they navigate across distant lands to discover hidden opulence.

Throughout the collection there is an adventurous sense of both shape and color. For women, frames recall the 1970’s, with oversized round and octagonal designs. For men, frames are thick and chunky and a twist on classic 60’s styles, with their wide temples and strong brow bars.

“Desert sunsets are reflected in the Mellow Yellow acetate and in the gentle graduated hues of paprika red, cinnamon brown and deep blue.  Sunkissed whites and Gold rolled onto tortoiseshell warm the senses while the gentle colours fig, honey and cumin whet the appetite.”

Maison Martin Margiela 2012 sunglass collection is now available.

After a very successful collaboration last year, French fashion label Maison Martin Margiela once again teams up with luxury eyewear maker Cutler and Gross for a full collection of sunglasses for 2012. The collection fuses the very best of two worlds; Maison Martin Margiela brings their signature expertise for experimental deconstructionist design, while the highly esteemed Cutler and Gross sees it to fruition with impeccable attention detail, materials, and workmanship.

The new range takes powerful past inspirations and themes and re-invents them through Margiela’s discerning perspective.

The main themes include:

‘Cable Temple’ – Our favorite of the season, the ‘Cable Temple’ uses a temple design whose origin can be traced back to the 1800’s.  The Italian acetate frame front is paired with German made stainless steel cable temples which wrap around the wearer’s ears for a secure and comfortable fit.  Also rare for an acetate frame they feature nose pads which help provide a better fit on a wider variety of noses.  Available in three colors: classic Black,  a rich Dark Turtle, as well as a very unique transparent “Champagne”.

‘Replica France’ – For the first time, Maison Martin Margiela has adapted its ‘Replica’ line to include sunglasses.  ‘Replica France’ is based on French motoring sunglasses of the 1970s; it is a semi-rounded design with a unique embossed front outline and tapered sides. Available in Black and Champagne.

‘Rimless’ –  Light weight, minimalist, yet completely distinct and memorable.  The Rimless is a style which plays on the illusion that the lenses are free from form and not surrounded by a frame. The very slim arms are made from stainless steel.  Available as the ‘Rimless Pilot’ style as well as the bold and oversized ‘Rimless Round’.

Glasses worn by 1960s French policemen inspire the design of hand-polished model 1057. Cutler and Gross Spring/Summer 2012 “A Hong Kong Love Story” is now in stock.

Each season Cutler and Gross whisk us away with an alluring passionate tale. Through a time, a place, a mood — an awe inspiring collection perfectly reveals itself.  The Spring Summer 2012 range entitled “Hong Kong Love Story” transports us to Hong Kong in the early 1960’s, with a romantic feeling of forbidden love.

“He was a broken-hearted journalist, she a beautiful but world-weary young married secretary, neglected by her work-obsessed husband. The couple met by chance in Hong Kong, simply by walking past each other to their different apartments. Cupid’s arrow aimed precisely at the two lost souls and they fell instantly in love. As time went by she became more fearless with her style and more beautiful and alluring by wearing stronger colours and patterned cheongsams. He also became more dapper and more protective towards her.”

With a touch of nostalgia Cutler and Gross introduces several one of a kind shapes of both sun and optical this season. Thoughts of Chinese engravings, the warm colors of sculpted wood, jasmine tea leaves, and the fragrance of mango and lychee give rise to stunning colors such as: “Rose Chinoise” a beautiful soft pink, vibrant “China Blue”, “Veneer”, and “Lychee”.  As always, the quality and craftsmanship of each frame is  remarkable and at the absolute highest possible standard.  From the materials to the sizing and proportions, each subtle detail is perfectly executed, such as the signature engraving pattern on the “1053″ model, or the filigree etched metal work and brow bar on their “1055″ aviator model, among our favorites.
