Relax and take a carefree cruise down the coast with the laid back sophisticated style of Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO).  Effortlessly fusing timeless design with the “spirit of California” there is a clean aesthetic to GLCO that just feels right. After embracing classic American heritage in their last collection, this season GLCO gives us a touch of West Coast nostalgia as they pay tribute to their California roots.

Our designs are specifically inspired by classic coastal living from motorcycle riding movie characters of the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s to the effortlessly beautiful vintage California beach blonde.”

Waiting For The Sun Sunglasses

Waiting For The Sun Sunglasses

Eyegoodies is proud to welcome to the site “Waiting for the Sun” sunglasses.

Always on the lookout for unique designers we couldn’t help but be drawn to the hand-carved all wooden sunglasses of Waiting for the Sun. Handmade in Paris France each pair of sunglasses is meticulously constructed using super lightweight natural materials such as Australian tea wood, rose wood, or bamboo. Classic styles such as the wayfarer, cat-eye, P3, and even a round John Lennon esque style are given a completely different look and feel.

Wood offers great properties unlike any other material —- each piece of wood has different natural veins, making each sunglass unique.  Also wood changes overtime with use, from sunlight, moisture…so like a faded loved pair of jeans it only gets better with age.  Other notable frame features include optical spring hinges for increased comfort and Carl Zeiss lenses which are known for their superb optics.

Each pair of sunglasses comes complete with a special edition 2041 cm2 artist designed scarf, as part of Waiting for the Sun’s “2041 program”.  The 2041 program is a partnership allowing various artists from all over the world, such as Steven Harrington, Parra, PAM, and more, to design a 2041 cm2 sized scarf to protect your glasses.  The scarf design included with each pair of sunglasses is chosen at random.

Garrett Leight California Optical

Garrett Leight California Optical

Eyegoodies is proud to welcome to the site Garrett Leight California Optical.

For Garrett Leight, son of Oliver Peoples founder Larry Leight, some might think making eyewear was seemingly destined, but for him it is just a matter of following his passion.  It is out of this love for eyewear and “desire to create beautiful things” that his namesake brand “Garrett Leight California Optical” (GLCO for short) was born.

Leight put in the time honing his skills by working directly for both Oliver Peoples and Mosley Tribes. However make no mistake, Garrett Leight California Optical has a style and vision which is uniquely his own.

Garrett Leight California OpticalGLCO is laid back, sophisticated, and inspired by Leight’s California surroundings: the place where he was born, raised, works, lives, and loves.  Timeless styles are brought to life through his discerning west coast perspective; From the colorways, such as “Champagne” with “Ocean” polarized lenses, or “Honey Blonde Tortoise” with old school “Pure Green” lenses (just to name a few) — to the frames all being named after streets in Venice CA .  Even the Venice zip code “90291” is specially engraved on the core wire, a very nice touch.  There is a beautiful aesthetic to the entire collection.  It’s not over complicated, just a slice of classic 20th century Americana served with a modern twist.

GLCO sunglasses-details

Having come from an optical background gives Leight the unique ability to perfectly execute the subtle details which makes any frame just that much better: such as the fit, proportion, and comfort.  The collection also boasts some great technical features, such as German-made hinges, Japanese aged acetate, and Italian glass Barberini lenses for superb optics.

Ray Ban RB 4165 Justin Sunglasses

Ray Ban RB 4165 Sunglasses Justin

The latest wayfarer to join the Ray Ban family: Ray Ban RB 4165 Justin sunglasses.

The new Ray Ban RB 4165 (also named the “Justin”), offers a great fit for most faces.  The shape is more rectangular, rounder and contemporary than the classic Ray Ban Original Wayfarer rb2140, it doesn’t flare up or angle into the face.  The RB 4165 is also a fuller shape compared to the Ray Ban new wayfarer rb2132, offering more coverage.

What really sets this sporty wayfarer apart though are its light weight comfortable materials. The RB 4165 is made with plastic lenses which are much lighter weight than the typical Ray Ban glass. The frame is also made from matted rubber which has the advantage of gripping your skin to prevent slipping.

The Ray Ban 4165 is offered in unique two-tone matte color options: matte brown gradient grey, matte blue gradient transparent, matte red gradient grey, and matte brown gradient transparent.

Cutler and Gross Eyewear | SS 2011, The Mermaid and the Officer

Cutler and Gross Sunglasses

Eyegoodies is proud to welcome to the site one of our all time favorite brands, Cutler and Gross.  Supply Limited.

Cutler and Gross was founded in 1969 by Graham Cutler and Tony Gross who opened their optical boutique in Knightsbridge London stocking handmade bespoke frames. Since their inception, their one of a kind luxury eyewear was an instant success and an integral part in forever shaping the landscape of the industry.  Other brands often try to imitate and take inspiration from Cutler and Gross, but there is nothing quite like the real thing; A difference which can not only be seen, but a quality which can be felt.

Cutler and Gross is not about being overly complicated.  You will find no obnoxious branding or logo’s on the outside of their frames, yet they capture your eye with a “quiet elegance, and a firm and graceful classicism”.  The brand adheres to the same principles today as it has for over four decades, and for which it is globally renowned: unsurpassed quality and timeless aesthetics.

While most designer frames are mass produced using flimsy injection molding techniques, the manufacturing process that Cutler and Gross employs is both expensive and time consuming; there are no short-cuts taken and no detail over looked.

Cutler and Gross Eyeglasses

“The Cutler and Gross frames are cut from sheets of acetate and then the rough cut goes into a polishing process where we first tumble the frame fronts and temples in a wood barrel for 3-4 days with resin chips and olive oil. The tumbling smoothes the surface of the frames and prepares for the hand polishing, without removing too much of the sharpness of the frame. Every hole is hand drilled and the pins and hinges are screwed by hand, no glue is used in the frame building process that takes 3 weeks.”

This manufacturing process has become a lost art today.  A pair of Cutler and Gross sunglasses or eyeglasses is made to last a lifetime, “The real McCoy” not just another designer decoy.

SUPER Black Briar Sunglasses | Summer 2011

SUPER Black Briar Sunglasses

The lastest summer drop from SUPER sunglasses is now in stock.  Along with a much needed replenishment of  staple pieces such as the Black Flat Tops, there are some great new additions to the line.

Here we highlight one of our favorites, the “Black Briar” series.

The Black Briar is an ode to the classic luxury styling of the 1970’s. The front of the sunglasses have shiny black acetate while each of the temples feature panel in “Briar”. The Briar effect is created using a rich acetate, giving the same smooth, glossy appearance of radica as was used in luxury cars.  While the Black Briar series may heavily invoke the 70’s, they transcend era’s, making them a timeless classic in SUPER history.

The Black Briar is available several of Super’s signature models: Flat Top, Basic Shape, People, Andrea, and W; Shown Below.
